An excellent opportunity has come available for a Machine Shop Supervisor to join a well-established specialist engineering firm in Aberdeen, which has a strong trading history of over 130 years.
Role Purpose

Ensure efficient and timely production within the machining department to high quality levels; whilst maintaining a positive and safe working environment.
Main Responsibilities/Duties

• Planning and executing work efficiently and safely through the department by organising personnel and resources.
• Communicating order priorities between Management / Sales and your team on a daily basis.
• Delegations of duties to your team ensuring the requirements are clearly understood.
• Ensure delivery schedules are achieved to the required quality.
• Reading and interpretation of engineering drawings; ensuring the requirements are clear to your team.
• CNC programming and machining (Turning & Milling), as time permits.
• Determining machining times for quotations, target hours and forward loading purposes.
• Assisting sales personnel and/or creating quotations for machining as required.
• Liaise with customers and suppliers in a professional manner.
• Accurate record keeping and sign-off of production inspection records.
• Accurate recording and efficient use of stock materials and consumables.
• Setting and adherence to machinery maintenance schedules.
• Regular ‘Walking Tours’ to include 5S, Housekeeping, Health & Safety, Machine maintenance and environmental observations.
• Own and hit agreed production targets / departmental KPI’s.
• Identification of efficiency opportunities including modern machining strategies.
• Develop the skill base within your team, maximising operator flexibility and nurturing apprentices.
• Carry out regular appraisals and performance goal setting with each member of your team and identify training requirements.
• Follow company internal procedures that reflect ISO 9001:2015.
• Ensure own safety and safety of others in all working practices; developing safety awareness amongst the team at all time.
Skills and Competencies 

The skills and competencies required of the role include:
Where not currently fully realised you must commit to work towards; training will be provided where necessary/appropriate for the right candidate.
• Solid machine shop experience, demonstrating a very high level of CNC competence (Turning & Milling) as well as knowledge of manual machining/turning processes.
o Knowledge of Haas & Mazak operating systems beneficial.
o Knowledge of EdgeCam CNC programming beneficial.
• Knowledge of modern tooling, work holding and cutting strategies.
• Advanced working knowledge of modern inspection techniques and surface finish requirements.
• Information technology skills including Microsoft Office applications.
• Good listening, negotiation, communication and presentation skills.
• Health and Safety awareness e.g. IOSH/NEBOSH.
• Team building and conflict management skills.
• Planning and organising skills with ability to delegate responsibly.

• On offer is an hourly rate up to £19.50/hour (plus additional overtime when required)
• Since they are an employee owned company, there is also a company share scheme in operation.
